Cyclone ‘Chido’ has caused massive devastation in the Indian Ocean island of Mayotte. According to CNN, during the cyclone, winds blew at a speed of 225 km/hour, due to which dozens of settlements were completely destroyed.
Chido is being described as the worst storm to hit Mayotte in the last 100 years. It is feared that at least 1,000 people have died. Although its official confirmation is yet to be done. This storm has caused so much destruction that people are comparing it to an atomic bomb.
Mayotte is located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, just west of Madagascar. It is occupied by France. It is 7,837 km away from the European country. Rescue workers, including a rescue team from France, are searching for survivors in the debris.

Mayotte officials said the cyclone caused significant damage to infrastructure. The power system has come to a standstill. Roads are broken. People are facing a lot of trouble due to this.
The population of Mayotte is 3 lakh 20 thousand. Of these, thousands of people are struggling with the problems of food, water and shelter. People have not even got water for 3 days and a situation of starvation has arisen.

French military aerial footage shows villages reduced to rubble. According to the French Interior Ministry, Mayotte is the poorest region of the European Union. Mayotte is home to nearly 1 million illegal immigrants, with 77% living below the poverty line.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on social media that he was closely monitoring the situation in Mayotte. At the same time, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Europe stands with the people of Mayotte in this terrible crisis and the EU is ready to provide assistance in the coming days.
