YouTube Video: Video streaming platform YouTube has recently announced some new policies regarding video uploading. YouTube will crack down on content creators who upload videos with misleading thumbnails and titles. According to the agency, strict action will be taken against all those Indian content creators if they use clickbait thumbnails and titles (YouTube Video). In a blog post by Google India, YouTube said that if the content of a video does not match the thumbnail and title, then that video will be deleted (YouTube New Policy). YouTube said that this rule is made for videos focused on any breaking news or recent events.
Thumbnails should match the video content
According to YouTube, sensitively offensive and misleading video titles and thumbnails have a negative impact on the viewer experience. Visitors who come to the platform to search for any important information are shocked to see such videos. YouTube said that Indian creators are doing this while making videos about breaking news or any recent events and hence all Indian content creators are being monitored. This means that from now on content creators will not be able to put any text in the thumbnail or title that is not in the video. Nothing can be placed in thumbnails and titles just to attract the viewer. However, YouTube has not yet announced any way or method to express opinions against this decision.
What steps will YouTube take?
Uploading such clickbait videos will cause YouTube to initially remove the video from the platform and videos with such misleading thumbnails and titles will not be shown. But initially for the first time YouTube will not strike the video content creator, no action will be taken against the creator for the first time. And this arrangement is made so that the creators can write this new rule.
However, YouTube has not yet clarified exactly which types of videos related to breaking news or recent events will fall under this rule. And how YouTube will identify this type of clickbait, the company has not said anything about that.
