The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) successfully organized the 17th IEI Industry Excellence Awards 2024 and 4th IEI Engineering Education Excellence Awards 2024 on December 19, 2024 at Novotel Hotel & Residences, Kolkata. This year’s theme was “Engineering Innovation, Shaping India’s Future as a Global Leader”, a unique example of celebrating engineering talent and excellence. The event highlighted India’s progress in sustainability, digital transformation, entrepreneurship development and educational reforms.
The function was inaugurated by Chief Guest Engineer BRV Sushil Kumar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Telangana Mineral Development Corporation Limited (TGMDCL). Shri Tapan Mishra, Founder of CCIR Radar and former Director of ISRO’s Space Applications Center was present as the special guest. Their inspiring speeches emphasized the importance of engineering and its potential to shape Indian industry and academia.

Honors of Excellence: Awardees
The IEI Industry Excellence Awards 2024 honored organizations for outstanding contributions in various sectors:
- In the platinum category, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore, Steel Authority of India, Salem, Afcons Infrastructure Limited, Mumbai, and Mekon Limited, Ranchi were awarded for excellence in engineering manufacturing, processing, construction and consultancy.
- Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., Pune, and Waps Ltd., Gurgaon, were awarded in the Gold category for their outstanding contribution.
- The Silver Award goes to ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited, for their outstanding work in engineering manufacturing.
The IEI Engineering Education Excellence Awards 2024 honored educational institutions leading the way in educational excellence and innovation:
- The Platinum Awards honored SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, and Modi University of Science and Technology, Rajasthan in their respective categories.
- Gold Awards went to Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, and Padma Shri to Dr. VB Kolte College of Engineering, Maharashtra.
- Silver Awards went to Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, and Sri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Andhra Pradesh for their educational efforts.
Constructive Panel Discussions: The event featured four insightful panel discussions, where constructive discussions were held on important topics in engineering and education. Discussions covered balancing sustainable development and industrial growth, role of digital transformation and data intelligence for industrial competitiveness, impact of NEP 2020 on education and industrial cooperation, and entrepreneurship development in corporate, MSMEs, and academic sectors. In these discussions, experts from established organizations and academia share their insights, which will play an important role in shaping the future of the engineering sector in India.
