Canada’s Deputy PM and Finance Minister Chrystia resigned from the post on Monday. Cristia posted on social media that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had last Friday asked him to leave the post of Finance Minister and take up the responsibility of another ministry.
Angered by this, Cristia has decided to resign from the cabinet. He wrote that for some time now Trudeau and he were not able to agree on decisions. Chrystia has long been considered Trudeau’s most influential and loyal minister.
Recently, Cristia had expressed her disagreement over Trudo giving Rs 15,000 for free to the citizens. He had said that Canada is facing the threat of tariffs on exports to America. In such a situation, one should avoid spending too much.
Justin Trudeau is using schemes like distributing free money to win the elections.
Chrystia was the chairperson of the Committee on Relations with America Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was also the chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on US Relations. This committee works to improve America’s relations and resolve matters. Cristea was scheduled to make a statement yesterday regarding US President-elect Donald Trump’s threat of tariffs.
Trump has threatened Canada and Mexico that the US will impose 25% tariffs on them if they do not stop smuggling of migrants and drugs. In her statement, Chrystia was going to provide information about ways that Canada could be protected from tariffs.
Recently, Trump jokingly offered Canada to become America’s 51st state.
Trump quipped, said- people will not remember him Transport Minister Anita Anand has also expressed surprise at Cristia’s resignation. He said that this news is shocking. Minister Anand has refused to comment on this matter at present. He said that first he needs to understand the whole matter.
Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada’s main opposition Conservative Party, said Trudeau has lost control of the government. They are struggling to remain in power. Pierre said that it is very unfortunate that the country has become weak at the time of American threat.
Trump has taken a jibe at Cristea leaving his post on social media. He said-
The Great State of Canada is shocked that their Finance Minister has resigned or been fired by Governor Justin Trudeau. His behavior was very toxic and not appropriate for the unhappy citizens of Canada. People will not miss him.
Elections are to be held in Canada next year Elections for the post of Prime Minister are to be held in Canada in 2025. These elections will be conducted before October. Current Prime Minister Trudeau said he plans to lead the Liberal Party to contest the next election. However, many party leaders do not like Trudeau as a prime ministerial candidate.
Trudeau is claiming the post of Prime Minister for the fourth time. In the last 100 years in Canada, no Prime Minister has won elections four times in a row. Trudeau’s Liberal Party does not have a majority in Parliament on its own.
Trudeau was elected Prime Minister for the first time in 2015. He had succeeded in establishing his identity as a liberal leader. However, for some time now, Trudeau has been facing political challenges due to the rise of fundamentalist forces in Canada, the increasing number of immigrants and the situation created after Covid-19.
