Courteney Cox has reportedly signed on to reprise her role as journalist Gale Weathers in the upcoming Scream 7.
Variety reports that Cox, who didn’t commit to returning for another Scream movie until earlier this year, has now officially joined the cast of the new slasher film.
Cox was waiting to see a final script before deciding to return as Gal Weathers, and is said to be always open to appearing in a new Scream film. He is enthusiastic about the decision of director Kevin Williamson to direct the movie. Williamson wrote the script for the original Scream in 1996.
This means that the cast of Scream 7 is starting to fill out. Neve Campbell confirmed earlier this year that he would return as Sidney Prescott. Campbell has publicly stated that the reason he did not return for Scream 6 was due to a salary dispute, but after his return he appears to have had any differences with the studio.
Other cast members include Isabelle May who is set to play Sidney Prescott’s daughter and Mason Gooding, who will return as Chad Mix-Martin. Her appearance will further connect Scream 7 to the past two films, following Jenna Ortega’s departure due to scheduling conflicts and Melissa Barrera’s firing over her comments on the Israel-Hamas war. The two played Sam and Tara Carpenter respectively and were the stars of the Scream reboot.
Cox has been a constant cast member of the Scream franchise since the first movie and Roger L. Jackson (who voices Ghostface) is the only cast member to have appeared in every Scream movie to date.
