The third animated Spider-Verse film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has finally revealed its directors.
According to an official X post, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson has been tapped to direct the third film in the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, following Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
“We’ve had the tremendous opportunity to be a part of Miles’ journey from the beginning, and it’s beyond exciting to direct the conclusion of his story,” the directors said in a statement to Deadline.
Persichetti and Thompson previously worked on Spider-Verse films, with Persichetti serving as a director on Into the Spider-Verse and Thompson as production designer. The former was also an executive producer on the sequel, Across the Spider-Verse.

Plot details for the third film have yet to be revealed, although the second film ended on a major cliff-hanger, so we’ll hopefully see a resolution to that story in the conclusion.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released in May 2023 and grossed around $691 million at the box office. It ended without a resolution and instead promised that a third film would arrive by 2024. However, Beyond the Spider-Verse was delayed and removed from Sony’s release calendar following the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
With news of two new directors joining the project, we’re hoping to finally get a third Spider-Verse movie on the way.
IGN reviewed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and gave it an 8 out of 10, calling it “a worthy follow-up to an all-time classic”.

EDIT: A previous version of this story said Beyond the Spider-Verse had announced a new director. Executive producer Christopher Miller confirmed that Persichetti and Thompson were always directors on the movie and that it was meant to be revealed as their directors. The story has been edited to reflect this.
