How to decide whether it is a tsunami or not According to the US ‘Tsunami Warning System’, if a tsunami advisory or alert is issued after an earthquake and after this waves 1 meter high rise in the sea, then it is kept in the tsunami category. Their height can later be 3 to 5 meters. If waves rise up to 5 meters then it is placed in the ‘Major Tsunami’ category.
What kind of signs are there before a tsunami arrives in the sea? Whenever a tsunami occurs after an earthquake, the waves moving below the sea surface hit the shores first. When waves move towards the shore, a vacuum is created below, which pulls the water above the shore towards the sea. Due to this, the land on the shore of the port or the sea bed becomes visible.
The retreat of sea water is a sign that a tsunami is about to come. A few minutes or hours later, the tsunami wave hits the shore with great force and noise.
Tsunami is a series of destructive waves, which come one after the other. It is called ‘wave train’. As the waves reach the shore one after the other from the middle of the ocean, the strength of the tsunami increases.
People who suffered the tsunami tragedy say that just because a small wave came and went, it does not mean that the tsunami has gone away. It brings destruction in the form of second, third, fourth wave. For this reason, as soon as you get a chance, you should immediately move to a safe place.
