Just as HT Bangla has learned to walk in five years, the world of health technology has matured. Since the advent of artificial intelligence, the medical system has undergone radical changes. Mortality, complications including surgery have decreased. How technology has changed the world’s health sector in five years? Hindustan Times Bangla looked back at them after five years.
The past five years have seen a number of significant innovations and improvements in the field of health technology (healthtech), which have brought about drastic changes in healthcare, diagnosis and treatment methods. Some of the important innovations include:
1. Telemedicine: After the Covid-19 pandemic, telemedicine has seen tremendous growth. In this, doctors and patients can consult remotely through phone or video call. This has made it easier to reach health care in rural areas and saved time and money.
2. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML): Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, doctors are now able to diagnose diseases faster and more accurately. For example, AI technology is being used for accurate diagnosis of diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Besides, the development of automated tools for AI-based treatment is also progressing.
3. Digital Health Portals (E-Health Portals): Digital health portals are helping patients to store their health records digitally and access them easily. Through this, information sharing between patients and doctors is easy and necessary medical data is available quickly.
4. Wearable Health Devices: More information about people’s health is available through fitness trackers and smartwatches. These devices are capable of monitoring heart rate, step count, and sleep patterns, helping in health monitoring. Some other devices can also track important health indicators like blood pressure, glucose and oxygen levels.
5. Genetic and Biomedical Research: Genetic sequencing and biomedical research have made significant advances in the past five years. This technology is helping in early detection of diseases, customized treatment (suitable treatment for each patient) and providing accurate treatment recommendations. New therapies have been discovered to cure diseases such as cancer and genetic disorders.
6. Robotic Surgery: Robotic surgery, which has accelerated minimally invasive surgery (small incisions for complex surgeries), is able to perform more precisely, quickly and with less pain. It is helping the patient to recover faster and shorten the hospital stay.
7. Blockchain Technology: Patient health information is being secured through the use of blockchain technology in the healthcare system. This helps ensure transparency and security, so that personal health information is not misused.
These innovations are helping to revolutionize the healthcare sector and play an important role in providing affordable and quick healthcare in developing countries like Bangladesh.
