Bashar al-Assad fled Syria and went to Russia on December 8.
Sunni rebels in Syria captured the capital Damascus on 8 December. Just before this, President Bashar al-Assad fled the country and fled to Russia. His statement has come for the first time since this incident.

Assad said that he has not deceived anyone. He is not a person who would abandon his people or betray his army or his country. The former President also said that Syria is now in the hands of terrorists.
After Assad left the country, Syrian citizens entered his residence. Citizens looted the Rashtrapati Bhavan and took away the belongings there.
Assad said – I only wanted to fight the terrorists
Assad said that when militants attacked Damascus on Sunday, he left for the Russian base in Latakia and planned to continue fighting from there. Assad said that upon reaching Hmeimim air base that morning, it was clear that our forces had abandoned the field.
The former Syrian President said that after this, drone attacks on the Russian base also started and the situation kept worsening. After this, on the night of 8 December, the Russian government decided to take him to Russia.
Bashar al-Assad said that at no time had he thought about abdicating or seeking refuge. They only wanted to fight the war against terrorists. The Russian Foreign Ministry said on December 8 that Bashar al-Assad had stepped down and left the country after ordering a peaceful transfer of power.
Assad had sent 2 tons of cash from Syria to Russia: 2 thousand crores were sent through 21 planes
The Financial Times, quoting sources, has claimed that President Assad has sent $ 250 million (Rs 2,082 crore) in cash to Russia.
The report said that these transactions involved 100 dollar and 500 euro notes. These accounted for about 2 tonnes. It was flown from Damascus to Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport between March 2018 and May 2019. 21 flights were used to send this entire amount. On reaching Moscow it was deposited in Russian banks.
The report said that Western countries had imposed sanctions on the Assad government. In such a situation, they could not use dollars and euros. Therefore he decided to encash this amount in Russia.
