Clarissa Ward taking a ‘prisoner’ out of a prison in Damascus on 11 October.
Rebels captured the capital Damascus on December 8 after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled the country. After this, thousands of prisoners were freed from the jails there.
Live footage of the release of one of these prisoners was also broadcast on American channel CNN. Now it has come to light that the entire matter was fake.
CNN has also acknowledged that it was misled. The media channel said on Monday that the prisoner whose release was claimed from the prison in Damascus was not an ordinary prisoner but an intelligence officer of the Assad government.
When the CNN team reached the jail on December 11, the prisoner was in this condition.
After coming out of the jail, the ‘prisoner’ looks towards the sky and thanks God.
The prisoner thanked journalist Clarissa Ward.
CNN team reached jail in search of journalist who went missing 12 years ago CNN reported that on December 11, its team had reached the jail in search of missing American journalist Austin Tice. Austin went to cover the Syrian civil war in 2012. During this time he was kidnapped.
After the fall of the Assad government, CNN journalist Clarissa Ward went to a prison in Damascus in search of Austin. During this time they found a room which was locked. After breaking the lock, a person was found in that room, who told his name as Adel Gurbal.
When Adel was told that the Assad government had fallen, he was overjoyed. Adel said he was arrested by Assad government forces three months ago. He was imprisoned in this jail for so long.
This video of CNN went viral on social media. However, people started raising questions on the authenticity of this video. One user wrote-
How can a person imprisoned for 3 months become so healthy? His clothes are also absolutely clean. How is a person who has been confined in a dark room for 3 months able to see clearly even in bright light after coming out? This matter looks suspicious.
A user also raised question marks on the reporting of journalist Clarissa. He wrote that the CNN journalist had deliberately created this scene. This is an insult and exploitation of Syrian prisoners.
American fact check website revealed Later the American fact check website ‘Verify-SY’ exposed this entire matter. Verify-SY has stated in its report that the real name of prisoner ‘Adel Gurbal’ is ‘Salama Mohammad Salama’. He is also known as ‘Abu Hamza’. Salama held the rank of lieutenant in the intelligence department of the Assad government.
The report said Salama was notorious for extortion and torturing people at check points. However, it is not yet known how Salma reached the jail.
Clarissa Ward accused of fabricating fake stories Clarissa Ward has previously been accused of fabricating fake stories to increase TV ratings. On October 7, the Israel-Hamas war started and she had reached Gaza to cover it. During this time, she fell on the ground while making a video.
She wanted to tell that she had fallen on the ground to save herself from the rocket attack. It was claimed on social media that in reality no bomb or rocket had fallen anywhere nearby.
