Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake is on a state visit to India from December 15 to December 17.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake has come to India on his first foreign visit. During this he met Prime Minister Modi. Bilateral talks took place between the two. Dissanayake has assured PM Modi that he will not allow his country’s land to be used against India.
According to media reports, Dissanayake, who is visiting India for the first time as President, said on Monday that Sri Lanka will move forward with the help of India and will continue to extend its support to the neighboring country.
Dissanayake said-
We faced a major economic crisis about 2 years ago. India helped us a lot to get out of that quagmire. PM Modi has told me that Sri Lanka holds an important place in India’s foreign policy.
At the same time, Prime Minister Modi said that I am happy that you have chosen India for your first foreign trip after becoming the President. This visit is creating new energy in the relations between the two countries. We have adopted a futuristic vision for our partnership.
Aadhaar card like India in Sri Lanka too
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri later said that India has agreed to support Sri Lanka’s Unique Identification Project. This project will develop like the Aadhar card of India. Apart from this, India will provide financial assistance for the development of an airport in northern Sri Lanka.
Issues related to fishermen have also been discussed between India and Sri Lanka. The Foreign Secretary said that both the countries have agreed that such issues should be handled in a humane manner. Force should not be used for this.
Earlier, Dissanayake had said that there is a need to find a permanent solution to the fishermen’s issues. The two leaders also discussed Ramayana Circuit and Buddhist Circuit to increase tourism in each other’s countries.
Apart from this, the two leaders discussed Sampur Solar Energy Project, increasing railway connectivity within Sri Lanka, ferry and flight services between the two countries, unique identification project, education, defense agreements and increasing cooperation on hydrography.

Dissanayake welcomed with guard of honor in India
Dissanayake, who was on his first foreign tour, was welcomed by a guard of honor at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He met President Draupadi Murmu and went to Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Dissanayake is on a state visit to India from 15 December to 17 December. Dissanayake will attend the state dinner hosted by President Murmu tonight. After this we will go to Bodh Gaya tomorrow morning.
