HTS chief Julani giving a speech at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus on December 8.
Abu Julani, leader of the rebel group HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) in Syria, said that he will recruit fighters associated with the organization into the army. For this, training will also be given to the fighters.
HTS is a group of Sunni fighters in Syria that captured the capital Damascus on December 8, after which President Assad had to flee the country to Russia.
According to Moscow Times, Abu Julani said that we want to tell all the minority people of Syria that our fighters will follow the law and protect the common people.
Julani assured the minorities that their interests would be protected in the country. He appealed to the people of the country to remain united. Julani said international sanctions against Syria should be lifted so that refugees living in other countries can return home.

Britain can lift the ban on HTS
Abu Julani talked about improving relations with Britain. According to BBC, talks took place between British diplomats and leaders associated with HTS on Monday.
In fact, last week the British government said that they are considering removing the terrorist organization designation imposed on HTS. British PM Keir Starmer had also said regarding this that the decision regarding HTS was taken very hastily.
Britain had banned HTS in 2017. America banned it a year later. HTS is considered a former ally of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda. Although HTS has claimed that it has no connection with it.
HTS is still accused of human rights abuses, including carrying out the death penalty for blasphemy and adultery.
How did Julani carry out the coup?
According to media reports, when the Syrian civil war ended in 2016, Julani started strengthening his fighters. He prepared his army with the help of people from China’s Uyghur Muslims to Arabs and Central Asia.
He waited for the right time, which came because of the Israel-Hamas war and the Russia-Ukraine war. In 2022, war started in Ukraine and Russia got busy there. Due to this, Russia withdrew its troops from Syria.
Then in 2023, the war between Israel and Hamas started. The result was that Iran and Hezbollah, which were helping Assad in Syria, were no longer able to pay attention to him. Hezbollah became weak after the death of Hassan Nasrallah. Taking advantage of this, Julani attacked the Syrian army and overthrew the President in 11 days.
