Writing about five years of experience in Hindustan Times Bengal, I remember a few lines of a poem by poet Pramod Bose. “The little ones have to be first. To save the dignity of the elders, in this cage day and night, the children have to be first.’
When Hindustan Times Bangla made its debut in the very last year of 2019, 95 not out was its father. Yasshwi Jaswal was not particularly interested in Indian cricket until he established himself in the tent of Azad Maidan. But whether Sachin’s son will become a big cricketer, everyone is interested in Arjun since his birth lagna. Hence, the Bengali press had its eyes on Hindustan Times Bangla, a newborn of a nearly century-old institution. Hindustan Times Bengal was challenged to be the first to save the standards of the elders. Needless to say, we have made a lot of progress towards that goal in just 5 years.
Not from the very first day, but from the very beginning, I have been a companion in the journey of Hindustan Times Bengal. Before coming here I had experience working in digital media. But those who took up the challenge of growing saplings with daily water in the midst of great odds, the satisfaction of putting their hands to their efforts is immense. Especially today when that sapling has sprouted branches, raised its head higher than many, it seems worthwhile to sweat the days of yesteryear with the rest of the Hindustan Times Bengali family.
Even a small dinghy can easily capsize in rough waters if a skilful sailor holds the oars. Personally, I believe that a Kandari will show us the right path in the future in good times and in adversity. I refuse to be complacent about conceding five goals to opponents. The goal is to be a champion. The next goal is to retain the title. For now let the main mantra be climbing up the stairs one step at a time. You can jump higher if you know the time.
