Total Mobile Users in India: During a meeting in the Parliament on Wednesday, Delhi’s Minister for Connectivity and Rural Development Chandrashekhar Premmanani said that a total of 115.12 crore people are using mobile phones in the country. These statistics (Mobile Usage) are available till October 31. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister said that out of the total 6 crore 44 lakh 131 villages of the country, 6 crore 23 lakh 622 villages have mobile coverage (Total Mobile Users). With the initiative of the central government, mobile networks have also been created in many unpopular villages. In this regard, telecom provider companies have also helped to a large extent.
The Union Minister also informed that several schemes and projects under the Central Government’s Digital India Fund are being considered for investment to strengthen the telecom communication system by installing mobile towers extensively in rural areas as well. The Center is emphasizing on providing mobile network even in hilly areas and remote areas.
The National Optical Fiber Network aka Bharat Net project is one such initiative developed under the Digital India Fund. This initiative has been taken to provide broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats of the country. After the first phase, the Center is also going to start the second phase of the BharatNet project. For this, 1 lakh 39 thousand 579 rupees have been allocated by the center for 10 years of maintenance and management of 42 thousand village panchayats.
Up to 97 percent mobile network coverage in rural areas
Last week, the central government said that mobile network coverage in rural areas has reached 97 percent. 4G mobile connection has been established in about 6.5 lakh villages. It is known that 5G service has been provided in 779 districts out of 783 districts of the country till October 31. Also, 4.6 lakh 5G base transceiver stations have been installed in the country under the initiative of the government.
